ASK THE ENGINEER: Your Top 5 Door Questions Answered

Built to be the most durable on the market, our doors are engineered to provide years of reuse. They feature the same rugged, 3-layer construction as our RealWall™ panels, with a clean, white-painted aluminum front that faces the occupied area, a sound attenuating foam core that reduces renovation noise by up to 50%, and a galvanized steel back.

There are three options to choose from – hinged, sliding, or double doors – and each is backed by a 3-year industry leading guarantee.

While doors may seem straightforward enough, they do prompt some commonly asked questions from customers. In this blog post, we’re checking in with Bruce Bickford, Vice President of Product Development, for answers to your Top 5 questions about STARC’s door options.

If your question doesn’t appear below, feel free to connect with us live – but the following information should provide clarification.

Top 5 Questions About STARC's Door Options

How wide is the hinged double door?

The full opening of the hinged double door measures 72-7/8” x 91”; the active leaf-only is 36-1/2” x 91”. The heights are adjustable from 7’-11” to 12’ and interface with one another through a lift and drop technique. Bear in mind, it’s imperative that the system be properly anchored at the panel top to the ceiling plane or adjacent structural wall. The “Over the Door” kit can be adjusted to the proper ceiling height. Hinge Doors can change swing in/out and change hinge left/right.

Is the sliding door self-closing?

Yes, our reusable RealWall™ Sliding Doors feature an adjustable self-closing slider track. The heights are adjustable from 6’-10” to 10’ 3” and interface with one another through a lift and drop technique. This system be properly anchored at the panel top to the ceiling plane or adjacent structural wall. Sliding doors also require at least a door’s width of panels to the left of the door to support the outer end of the rail. The “Over the Door” kit can be adjusted to the proper ceiling height.

How are STARC's doors different from others on the market?

Just as versatility and safety are built into all of our temporary wall systems, our three door options are designed and engineered to offer unmatched flexibility.

  • Our hinged door can easily be adjusted in the field to open in/out or left/right.
  • Our sliding door– the only one on the market – is self-closing.
  • Our double doors easily accommodate large equipment.

All three door options come with an adjustable threshold and sweep, which allow for installation on uneven surfaces, and a modular over-the-door kit, which creates an airtight* seal from the top of the door to the ceiling. Glass may be installed on the upper or lower panels, and custom sizes are available.

Can you put vision panels in your doors?

All of our doors accommodate vision panels. Our standard glass vision kit is 5” x 32 ¼”. We also have doors that support an all-upper-glass panel – or full glass doors – if needed. Lead times vary from 2-4 weeks, depending on your glass requirements, so it’s best to call for details specific to your order.

Do you have anti-ligature doors?

Yes. Healthcare facilities typically install ligature-resistant hardware to safely care for patients while also keeping them secure. STARC’s doors are available with optional anti-ligature handle sets that make it almost impossible for a patient to attach a ligature.
